Anika Asplund

I am an artist, designer, maker of interpretive sculpture and a registered practicing architect.  In making works of art I am interested in the space between the ordinary and extraordinary.  Environment, place, materials, light and aspects of their interaction is my inspiration.  The connection with the medium I work with allows me to enter a dreamlike space of contemplation as the works emerge.

Background:

Of Swedish, Irish, Australian heritage Anika grew up living in Europe, Asia and Australia completing her studies of Architecture between Melbourne, Sydney and Gothenburg in 2001.

Anika founded Teknemodus PL in Sydney 2003, relocated to the Southern Highlands of NSW in 2008, now based in Currumbin since 2017.

The word tekne, refers to making, fabrication; and modus, the way in which something is made, the procedure and measure or extent.

The name contains the common thread that extends through the work. Teknemodus’ design focus is grounded in place making, use of sustainable materials and efficiency of form, creating environments that are a framework for life and register the landscape.

Teknemodus is recognised for its contextually responsive works across a range of cultural and commercial projects contributing to urban and regional installations nationally.
