An Amazing Granny, Seven Grandchildren & Two Creative Days at The Hive

It’s a family creative affair!

We love a good gallery story — and this one has our hearts completely full 💛

Recently, The Hive Art Gallery was buzzing with youthful energy thanks to one truly incredible grandma. Margaret noy only brought one of her daughters, she brought all seven of her grandchildren — from Grade 4 right through to Grade 10 — to the gallery for two unforgettable days of creativity, learning and making together. What an amazing granny!

The creative streak clearly runs strong in Margaret’s family. Over two jam-packed days in the gallery, the grandchildren immersed themselves in painting, drawing and experimenting with new techniques. They explored the rich, tactile world of fresco painting with Jo, learning about pigments, surfaces and expressive mark-making, and drawing inspiration form natural object from Jo’s garden, before switching gears to dive into anime character drawing with our resident manga artist, Gilly.

From careful observation and technical skills to imaginative expression and playful experimentation, the children tackled each session with curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm. Watching siblings and cousins of different ages work side-by-side — supporting, encouraging and inspiring one another — was a beautiful reminder of the power of shared creative experiences.

Moments like these are exactly why we do what we do at The Hive. Art becomes a bridge between generations, a space where learning is joyful and time spent together becomes something truly meaningful. Margaret’s gift to her grandchildren wasn’t just two days of art — it was an experience they’ll remember long after the paint has dried.

We’re so grateful to have shared the gallery with this wonderful family, and we tip our hats to one very special grandma who knows that creativity is one of the greatest gifts you can give.
