Art Kintsugi introductory workshop
Art of Kintsugi - Mindful Japanese art of mending and way of giving a new life to broken objects.
Number of Participants: up to 8 people
Venue: Hive art gallery, Currumbin, QLD
Workshop date / time: 31 January 2026 / 12 – 4pm
Duration: 4 hours (without break)
Kintsugi is a century-old Japanese craftwork where broken ceramic objects are
pieced back together using lacquer and finished with gold/silver dust, based on
the philosophy of Zen finding beauty in nature and imperfection.
The process transforms much loved, worn items into a beautifully crafted, new
piece of art. It is a chance to live a more sustainable way and to rescue objects
which would otherwise be discarded.
In this relaxed workshop students will learn the introductory technique of “Art
Kintsugi” mending method following the 7 essential steps using alternative
materials and bring home a piece of own Kintsugi art. (We will be using
accessible materials such as epoxy, resin, and gold metal pigment)
We will talk about the history of Kintsugi and important culture and philosophy
behind as well as ancient materials and tools
The workshop is designed for the participants to be able to practice and do
own repair project using the skill learnt in the class.
